Why the Bible?

The Bible is God's word for all mankind.  The Bible contains the history of mankind from the very beginning when God created the heavens and earth; the history of God's love for you and me...and His willingness to demonstrate that love by sending Jesus Christ to die for our sins.

We will be judged by God's word.  The Bible says that some day, Jesus will appear in the clouds, and those that are "in Christ," both the dead and the living...will rise to meet Him in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).  All of the graves will be opened and each person will be judged based on the word of God contained in scripture.  Jesus said in John 12:48:

"The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day." John 12:48 (ESV)

All scripture is inspired (God-breathed).  The Bible will help us to be the kind of people that we should be:

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." 2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)

So that we might understand God's will.  Jesus says in Matthew 7:

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock..." Matthew 7:21-24 (KJV)
