Following are some more examples of people becoming
Christians (or reminders to Christians of what they
did) after Jesus died and rose from the dead:
After Peter's first gospel sermon on the day of
Pentecost (to the Jews in Jerusalem and visitors
from all parts of the world, including Rome):
Acts 2:37-41 -- "Now when
they heard this they were pierced to the heart,
and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles,
"Brethren, what shall we do?" And Peter said to
them, "Repent, and let each of you be baptized
in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness
of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of
the Holy Spirit. "For the promise is for you and
your children, and for all who are far off, as
many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself."
And with many other words he solemnly testified
and kept on exhorting them, saying, "Be saved
from this perverse generation!" So then, those
who had received his word were baptized; and
there were added that day about three thousand
souls." (NAS)
Philip preaching in Samaria:
Acts 8:5-13 -- "And Philip
went down to the city of Samaria and began
proclaiming Christ to them. And the multitudes
with one accord were giving attention to what
was said by Philip, as they heard and saw the
signs which he was performing...But when they
believed Philip preaching the good news about
the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ,
they were being baptized, men and women alike.
And even Simon himself believed; and after being
baptized, he continued on with Philip; and as he
observed signs and great miracles taking place,
he was constantly amazed." (NAS)
Philip and the Ethiopian:
Acts 8:26-39 -- "But an
angel of the Lord spoke to Philip saying, "Arise
and go south to the road that descends from
Jerusalem to Gaza." (This is a desert road )
And he arose and went; and behold, there was an
Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace,
queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of
all her treasure; and he had come to Jerusalem
to worship. And he was returning and sitting in
his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.
And the Spirit said to Philip, "Go up and join
this chariot." And when Philip had run up, he
heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said,
"Do you understand what you are reading?" And he
said, "Well, how could I, unless someone guides
me?" And he invited Philip to come up and sit
with him. Now the passage of Scripture which he
was reading was this: "He was led as a sheep to
slaughter; and as a lamb before its shearer is
silent, so He does not open His mouth. "In
humiliation His judgment was taken away; who
shall relate His generation? For His life is
removed from the earth." And the eunuch answered
Philip and said, "Please tell me of whom does
the prophet say this? Of himself, or of someone
else?" And Philip opened his mouth, and
beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus
to him. And as they went along the road they
came to some water; and the eunuch said, "Look!
Water! What prevents me from being baptized?"
And Philip said, "If you believe with all your
heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I
believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."
And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they
both went down into the water, Philip as well as
the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they
came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord
snatched Philip away; and the eunuch saw him no
more, but went on his way rejoicing." (NAS)
Ananias teaches Saul (also called Paul):
Acts 22:16 -- "And now why
do you delay? Arise, and be baptized, and wash
away your sins, calling on His name.' (NAS)
Peter's instruction to Cornelius:
Acts 10:48 -- "And he
ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus
Christ. Then they asked him to stay on for a few
days." (NAS)
Paul teaches Lydia and her household:
Acts 16:13-15 -- "And on
the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to a
riverside, where we were supposing that there
would be a place of prayer; and we sat down and
began speaking to the women who had assembled.
And a certain woman named Lydia, from the city
of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, a
worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord
opened her heart to respond to the things spoken
by Paul. And when she and her household had been
baptized, she urged us, saying, "If you have
judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into
my house and stay." And she prevailed upon us."
(NAS)
Paul teaches the jailer and his household:
Acts 16:25-33 -- "But about
midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing
hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were
listening to them; and suddenly there came a
great earthquake, so that the foundations of the
prison house were shaken; and immediately all
the doors were opened, and everyone's chains
were unfastened. And when the jailer had been
roused out of sleep and had seen the prison
doors opened, he drew his sword and was about to
kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had
escaped. But Paul cried out with a loud voice,
saying, "Do yourself no harm, for we are all
here!" And he called for lights and rushed in
and, trembling with fear, he fell down before
Paul and Silas, and after he brought them out,
he said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" And
they said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you
shall be saved, you and your household." And
they spoke the word of the Lord to him together
with all who were in his house. And he took them
that very hour of the night and washed their
wounds, and immediately he was baptized, he and
all his household. And he brought them into
his house and set food before them, and rejoiced
greatly, having believed in God with his whole
household." (NAS)
Paul teaches Crispus and the Corinthians:
Acts 18:8 -- "And Crispus,
the leader of the synagogue, believed in the
Lord with all his household, and many of the
Corinthians when they heard were believing and
being baptized." (NAS)
Paul rebaptizes the followers of John the
baptist:
Acts 19:1-5 -- "And it came
about that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul
having passed through the upper country came to
Ephesus, and found some disciples, and he said
to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when
you believed?" And they said to him, "No, we
have not even heard whether there is a Holy
Spirit." And he said, "Into what then were you
baptized?" And they said, "Into John's baptism."
And Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism
of repentance, telling the people to believe in
Him who was coming after him, that is, in
Jesus." And when they heard this, they were
baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus." (NAS)
Those in the city of Rome:
Romans 6:3-5 -- "Or do you
not know that all of us who have been baptized
into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His
death? Therefore we have been buried with Him
through baptism into death, in order that as
Christ was raised from the dead through the
glory of the Father, so we too might walk in
newness of life. For if we have become united
with Him in the likeness of His death,
certainly we shall be also in the likeness of
His resurrection..." (NAS)
Those in the city of Corinth:
1 Corinthians 6:11 -- "And
such were some of you; but you were washed, but
you were sanctified, but you were justified in
the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the
Spirit of our God." (NAS)
1 Corinthians 12:13 -- "For
by one Spirit we were all baptized into one
body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or
free, and we were all made to drink of one
Spirit." (NAS)
Those in the region of Galatia:
Galatians 3:26-28 -- "For
you are all sons of God through faith in Christ
Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into
Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither
slave nor free man, there is neither male nor
female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
(NAS)
Those in the city of Ephesus:
Ephesians 5:25-27 --
"...just as Christ also loved the church and
gave Himself up for her; that He might sanctify
her, having cleansed her by the washing of water
with the word, that He might present to Himself
the church in all her glory, having no spot or
wrinkle or any such thing; but that she should
be holy and blameless." (NAS)
Those in the city of Colossae:
Colossians 2:12-14 --
"...having been buried with Him in baptism, in
which you were also raised up with Him through
faith in the working of God, who raised Him from
the dead. And when you were dead in your
transgressions and the uncircumcision of your
flesh, He made you alive together with Him,
having forgiven us all our transgressions,
having canceled out the certificate of debt
consisting of decrees against us and which was
hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the
way, having nailed it to the cross." (NAS)
To Titus:
Titus 3:4-7 -- "But when
the kindness of God our Savior and His love
for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the
basis of deeds which we have done in
righteousness, but according to His mercy, by
the washing of regeneration and renewing by the
Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly
through Jesus Christ our Savior, that being
justified by His grace we might be made heirs
according to the hope of eternal life." (NAS)
To the Hebrews:
Hebrews 10:19-22 -- "Since
therefore, brethren, we have confidence to enter
the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new
and living way which He inaugurated for us
through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since
we have a great priest over the house of God,
let us draw near with a sincere heart in full
assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies
washed with pure water." (NAS)
To those who reside in Pontus, Galatia,
Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia:
1 Peter 3:18-22 -- "For
Christ also died for sins once for all, the
just for the unjust, in order that He might
bring us to God, having been put to death in the
flesh, but made alive in the spirit; in which
also He went and made proclamation to the
spirits now in prison, who once were
disobedient, when the patience of God kept
waiting in the days of Noah, during the
construction of the ark, in which a few, that
is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water. And corresponding to that, baptism
now saves you-- not the removal of dirt from the
flesh, but an appeal to God for a good
conscience-- through the resurrection of Jesus
Christ, who is at the right hand of God, having
gone into heaven, after angels and authorities
and powers had been subjected to Him." (NAS)
The revelation of Jesus Christ to John:
Revelation 22:14 --
"Blessed are those who wash their robes, that
they may have the right to the tree of life, and
may enter by the gates into the city." (NAS)
The instructions that Jesus gave, before He
ascended into heaven:
Matthew 28:18-20 -- "And
Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All
authority has been given to Me in heaven and on
earth. "Go therefore and make disciples of all
the nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching
them to observe all that I commanded you; and
lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the
age." (NAS)
Mark 16:15-16 -- "And He
said to them, "Go into all the world and preach
the gospel to all creation. "He who has believed
and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who
has disbelieved shall be condemned." (NAS)
Luke 24:45-47 -- "Then He
opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,
and He said to them, "Thus it is written, that
the Christ should suffer and rise again from the
dead the third day; and that repentance for
forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His
name to all the nations, beginning from
Jerusalem." (NAS)
John 3:5, 16, 36 -- "Jesus
answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless
one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot
enter into the kingdom of God"..."For God so
loved the world, that He gave His only begotten
Son, that whoever believes in Him should not
perish, but have eternal life"..."He who
believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who
does not obey the Son shall not see life, but
the wrath of God abides on him." (NAS)
