John 8:58-59 says:

Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am*." Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself, and went out of the temple. John 8:58-59 (NAS)

Question:

According to John 8:58-59 some Jews wanted to kill Jesus with stones as a result of what Jesus was saying.  What was Jesus claiming to be?

Just a Prophet Just a Man God (the I AM)

"I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!" At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds. (NIV)

Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM." Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. (NKJ)

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was born, I am. They took up stones therefore to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple. (ASV)
