John 8:24 says:

"I said therefore to you, that you shall die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am [He] you shall die in your sins." John 8:24 (NAS)

Question:

According to John 8:24, what did Jesus say that we must believe in order that we not die in our sins*?

Jesus is who He says It Doesn't Matter


Other Translations - John 8:24: 

"I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am [the one I claim to be], you will indeed die in your sins." (NIV)

"Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins." (NKJ)

"I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for except ye believe that I am (he), ye shall die in your sins." (ASV)

* Note: The word sin means to "miss the mark." 

  Three different Hebrew words used in the early Old Testament manuscripts are translated into the English word "sin":

  1. chatta't - meaning to miss the road or to miss the mark,

  2. chata - meaning to miss the way or target, and

  3. asham - guilt through some wrongdoing.

  The Greek words in the early New Testament manuscripts that are translated into the English word "sin" include:

  1. hamartia - meaning "a missing of the mark," and

  2. harmartema - meaning an "act of disobedience to a divine law."
