Other Translations - 2 Peter 2:20-22:
If
they have escaped the corruption of the world by
knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are
again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse
off at the end than they were at the beginning. It
would have been better for them not to have known
the way of righteousness, than to have known it and
then to turn their backs on the sacred command that
was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are
true: "A dog returns to its vomit," and, "A sow that
is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud." (NIV)
For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of
the world through the knowledge of the Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in
them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them
than the beginning. For it would have been better
for them not to have known the way of righteousness,
than having known it, to turn from the holy
commandment delivered to them. But it has happened
to them according to the true proverb: "A dog
returns to his own vomit," and, "a sow, having
washed, to her wallowing in the mire." (NKJ)
For if, after they have escaped the defilements of
the world through the knowledge of the Lord and
Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled
therein and overcome, the last state is become worse
with them than the first. For it were better for
them not to have known the way of righteousness,
than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy
commandment delivered unto them. It has happened
unto them according to the true proverb, The dog
turning to his own vomit again, and the sow that had
washed to wallowing in the mire. (ASV)
