What Must We do?   An example of obedience to the gospel:

Before the apostle Paul (also called Saul) had his sins washed away, several things happened:

  • Day 1:  First, he was on his way to a city called Damascus to persecute Christians (Acts 22:4-5, Acts 9:1-2).

  • Day 1:  Jesus appeared to Saul on the road (Acts 22:6-11, Acts 9:3-7).

  • Days 2-4:  Saul, blinded from the event, spent three days in fasting and prayer (Acts 9:9-11).

  • Day 4 or 5: Then the Lord sent a man called Ananias. Ananias healed Saul's blindness (Acts 22:13, Acts 9:18).  Ananias then told Saul what he must do to have his sins forgiven (Acts 22:12-16, Acts 9:10-18).

After Paul had spent three days in fasting and prayer, Ananias said:

'And now why do you delay? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.' Acts 22:16 (NAS)

Question:

Ananias told Saul to "Arise and be baptized, calling on His name" for what reason?
