Jesus' Church is referred to as
The Kingdom
The people of that time were familiar with the
concept of a physical king and his subjects in the
kingdom. In the spiritual realm you see God
and Jesus as King...the Supreme Ruler. Those
that are true followers are the subjects in this
spiritual Kingdom.God and Jesus are the Head (the King) of the
Kingdom:
Matthew 25:31-34 "But when the Son of Man (Jesus
-- See 2 Thessalonians 1:6-8) comes in His glory,
and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His
glorious throne. "And all the nations will be
gathered before Him; and He will separate them from
one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep
from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His
right, and the goats on the left. "Then the King
will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are
blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared
for you from the foundation of the world. (NAS)
God and Jesus Reign on Their Thrones Forever as Head of the
Kingdom:
Hebrews 1:3-8 "And He (Jesus) is the radiance of
His (God's) glory and the exact representation of
His nature, and upholds all things by the word of
His power. When He had made purification of sins, He
sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high;
having become as much better than the angels, as He
has inherited a more excellent name than they. For
to which of the angels did He ever say, "Thou art My
Son, today I have begotten Thee"? And again, "I will
be a Father to Him And He shall be a Son to Me"?...
verse 8...But of the Son He says "Thy throne, O God,
is forever and ever, and the righteous scepter is
the scepter of His kingdom. (NAS)
This Kingdom is
Not of This World -- God and Jesus Reign in Heaven:
Christians live on this earth, but will go to live
in heaven with God and Jesus
John 18:36 -- Jesus
answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My
kingdom were of this world, then My servants would
be fighting, that I might not be delivered up to the
Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this
realm." (NAS)
John 14:2-3 -- "In My Father's house
are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would
have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will
come again, and receive you to Myself; that where I
am, there you may be also." (NAS)
Christians are the
Subjects of the Kingdom:
This group of Christians,
the "called out" is referred to as the church.
Matthew 16:18-19 "...and upon this rock I will build
My church; and the gates of Hades shall not
overpower it. "I will give you the keys of the
kingdom of heaven..." (NAS) Colossians 1:13-14 --
"For He delivered us from the domain of darkness,
and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved
Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of
sins." (NAS)
How Are We Added to the Kingdom?
Acts 8:12 - But when they believed
Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of
God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being
baptized, men and women alike. (NAS)
John 3:5 -
"Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless
one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter
into the kingdom of God." (NAS)
