Jesus
answered, "My
kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom
were of this world, then My servants would be
fighting, that I might not be delivered up to the
Jews; but as it is,
My kingdom
is not of this realm." John 18:36 (NAS)
Earlier in the book of John, Jesus perceived that
the Jews wanted to make Him their earthly King.
The Jews did not understand that Jesus' kingdom was
not of this world:
Jesus
therefore perceiving that they were intending to
come and take Him by force, to make Him king,
withdrew again to the mountain by Himself alone.
John 6:15 (NAS)
Jesus' Church: A Kingdom Without End:
The prophet Isaiah foretold of the birth of Jesus
saying in Isaiah 9:6-7:
"For
a child will be born to us, a son will be given to
us; and the government will rest on His shoulders;
and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There
will be no
end to the increase of His government or of
peace... Isaiah 9:6-7 (NAS)
This earth will pass away and everything in it:
"But
the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which
the heavens will pass away with a roar and the
elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and
the earth and its works will be burned up. Since all
these things are to be destroyed in this way, what
sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and
godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of
the day of God, on account of which the heavens will
be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt
with intense heat!" 2 Peter 3:10-12 (NAS)
But Jesus' church or kingdom will not be shaken:
"Therefore,
since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken,
let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God
an acceptable service with reverence and awe;"
Hebrews 12:28 (NAS)
