The
prophet Joel prophesied that Joel 2:32 that: "And it
will come about that whoever calls on the name of
the LORD will be delivered; for on Mount Zion and in
Jerusalem there will be those who escape, as the
LORD has said, even among the survivors whom the
LORD calls." (NAS)
The apostle Peter refers to this prophecy in
beginning in Acts 2:16 saying that this prophecy was
being fulfilled that day. After the crowd heard this
and Peter's message about the gospel of Jesus, it
says in Acts 2:37-39:
"Now
when they heard this they were pierced to the heart,
and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles,
"Brethren, what shall we do?" And Peter said to
them, "Repent, and let each of you be baptized in
the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your
sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy
Spirit. "For the promise is for you and your
children, and for all who are far off, as many as
the Lord our God shall call to Himself." (NAS)
When these people called on the Lord to be
delivered. What did the Lord, through Peter, tell
them to do? To pray...or to repent and be baptized?
According to 1 Peter 3:21 how do we appeal to God
for a clear conscience?
"And
corresponding to that, baptism now saves you-- not
the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to
God for a good conscience-- through the resurrection
of Jesus Christ," (NAS)
