Correct!
"He
stretches out the north over empty space, and
hangs the
earth on nothing." (NAS)
Many ancient religions taught (and some continue
to teach) that the world rode on the backs of
animals, reptiles or birds, or was held up by the
hands of the Greek "gods." The Biblical
account of the earth being suspended by "nothing"
was not only one of the first writings on the
subject, but is also clearly accurate.
Around 500 BC (more than a thousand years after
the book of Job was written), early mathematicians
began to theorize that the earth was a sphere
rotating around the sun. It wasn't until the
first century AD that scientists began to generally
acknowledge that the earth was a sphere and that it
was suspended in space.
How Did Job Know?
Some scholars consider the book of Job to be one
of the oldest of the books of the Bible (written as
early as 1500 to 2000 years before Christ).
How did Job know that the earth was suspended by
nothing?
"All
Scripture is inspired* by God and profitable for
teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training
in righteousness; that the man of God may be
adequate, equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy
3:16-17 (NAS)
* this word "inspired"
is translated from the Greek word "theopneustos"
(theh-op'-nyoo-stos); meaning "divinely breathed
in" or "God-breathed."
