Correct!
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and
we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten
from the Father, full of grace and truth. John bore
witness of Him, and cried out, saying, "This was He
of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has a higher
rank than I, for He existed before me.'" For of His
fulness we have all received, and grace upon grace.
For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth
were realized through
Jesus Christ.
No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten
God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has
explained Him. John 1:14-18 (NAS)
The Word Is God:
John 1:1-3 says of Jesus Christ
(the Word)... "In the beginning was the Word, and
the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (NAS)
The prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 9:6 foretold of
Jesus, saying:
"For
a child will be born to us, a son will be given to
us; and the government will rest on His shoulders;
and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah
9:6 (NAS)
The Father, Son and Holy Spirit:
So the Bible reveals three parts of God:
- God (also called the Father),
- the Word (also called by many names
including Jesus, the Christ, Mighty God, and the
Son of God), and
- the Holy Spirit.
When God (the Father, Son and Holy Spirit) made
man, God said in Genesis 1:26-27:
"Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image,
according to Our likeness; and let them rule over
the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky
and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over
every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." And
God created man in His own image, in the image of
God He created him; male and female He created
them." (NAS)
Later on in this lesson, we'll
look further at this concept of men and women being
created in the image of God.
