Correct answer!

As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful search and inquiry, 11 seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven-- things into which angels long to look.  1 Peter 1:10-12 (NAS)

The Old Testament Prophets:

1.  Prophesied of the grace that would come to us:

As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you... 1 Peter 1:10

2.  Predicted the sufferings of Christ.  They made careful search and inquiry of the scriptures, trying to predict the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow:

As to this salvation, the prophets...made careful search and inquiry, seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. 1 Peter 1:10-11

3.  Served by proclaiming the gospel. The Spirit within the prophets revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but us.  The prophets were serving us by the words they spoke...which are being announced again by those who preach the gospel to us by the Holy Spirit.

It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven-- things into which angels long to look. 1 Peter 1:12

The Prophets Prophesied of the Grace...of the Gospel:

Peter speaks about the grace (verse 10), the sufferings of Christ (verse 11) and the glories to follow (verse 11)...and that these things have been announced through those who preach the gospel (verse 12).

As we learned in lesson 1, the gospel of Jesus Christ is the story of how Jesus died for our sins, was buried for three days, and rose from the grave:

Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures... 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (NAS)

Christ suffered considerably on this earth, but then as the prophets predicted, He was glorified. Paul, writing to the Christians in Philippi, said in Philippians 2:5-11:

The Gospel - The Sufferings of Christ:

"Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross... Philippians 2:5-8 (NAS)

The Gospel - The Glories of His Resurrection:

Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 (NAS)
