It is impossible for us to fully understand the knowledge, wisdom and majesty of God through a simple lesson such as this. The more that we understand about God, the more we understand how His ways and thoughts are not our ways or thoughts:

Psalm 139 says:  "O LORD, Thou hast searched me and known me. Thou dost know when I sit down and when I rise up; Thou dost understand my thought from afar. Thou dost scrutinize my path and my lying down, and art intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O LORD, Thou dost know it all. Thou hast enclosed me behind and before, and laid Thy hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is too high, I cannot attain to it." Psalm 139:1-6 (NAS)

The purpose of this lesson is to begin to understand what the Bible says about the one true God that created the heavens and the earth.

The goals for this lesson are to gain a basic understanding or summary of:

  • What the Bible reveals about what God has done throughout history.
  • The main attributes or characteristics associated with God.
  • An understanding of the "Glory of God."
  • The physical nature of God as revealed in the Bible.
  • What it means to be "made in God's image."
