The Holy Spirit:

After the creation, the second time the Spirit is mentioned is in Genesis chapter 6 near the time of Noah.  From the days of Adam until Noah, men and women lived very long periods of time.  Some speculate today that it was because of the absence of the diseases and genetic mutations that came about after the flood until today.  In any event, here are just a few examples of how long people lived in that time:

From the days of Adam to the time of Noah there grew an increasing wickedness in all people (all except Noah).  Noah had found favor in God's eyes.  Genesis 6:9 says that "Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God."

"Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh (or "in his going astray he is flesh); nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years." Genesis 6:3 (NAS)

Question:

According to Genesis 6:3, the Lord said that His Spirit shall not ________ man forever... (fill in the blank)

* Note:  Enoch did not die.  Enoch was taken up to heaven by God when Enoch was 365 years old so that Enoch would not see death (see Genesis 5:22-24 and Hebrews 11:5).

** Noah had two other sons; Ham and Japheth.  The Bible does not say how old these two other brothers were when they died.  Genesis 5:32 says that Noah became the father of Shem, Jam and Japheth when Noah was 500 years old (or some translations read...after Noah was 500 years old.)

Other Translations - Genesis 6:3:

Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years." (NIV)

And the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years." (NKJ)

And Jehovah said, My spirit shall not strive with man for ever, for that he also is flesh: yet shall his days be a hundred and twenty years. (ASV)

And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. (KJV)
