Read Chapter 11Chapter 11:  The Lamb opens the seventh seal: The trumpets sound:

As a quick review, in Chapter 8 we saw the Lamb (Jesus) opening the 7th seal to the book. In Chapters 8-9, we see six of the seven angels sounding their trumpets and the bad things that were happening to those who were not the bond-servants of God.  Chapter 10 speaks about the days of the voice of the 7th angel, when he is about to sound the 7th trumpet.  In those days, the mystery of God is finished as He (God) preached the gospel to His servants.

Near the end of Chapter 11, we will see the 7th angel sounding the 7th trumpet. Let's look first at Revelation 11:1-6:

New American Standard Version of the BibleAnd there was given me a measuring rod like a staff; and someone said, "Rise and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and those who worship in it. 2"And leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the nations; and they will tread under foot the holy city for forty-two months. 3"And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for twelve hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth." 4These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. 5And if anyone desires to harm them, fire proceeds out of their mouth and devours their enemies; and if anyone would desire to harm them, in this manner he must be killed. 6These have the power to shut up the sky, in order that rain may not fall during the days of their prophesying; and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood, and to smite the earth with every plague, as often as they desire. Revelation 11:1-6 (NAS)

The measuring stick and two witnesses:

John was given a measuring stick (like a reed or a staff) and was told by "someone" to measure three things:  1) the temple of God, 2) the altar, and 3) those who worship in it.

Then John speaks of the "two witnesses" that were given the authority to prophesy (to speak by inspiration).

Question:

According to Revelation 11:3-4, these two witnesses are symbolized by two _________. (fill in the blank)

Stars Beasts Trees & Lampstands

Other Translations - Revelation 11:1-6:

Easy-to-Read Version of the BibleThen I was given a measuring rod as long as a walking stick. I was told, "Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count the people worshiping there. 2But don't measure the yard outside the temple. Leave that alone. That has been given to the people who are not Jews. Those people will walk on the holy city for 42 months.  3And I will give power to my two witnesses. And they will prophesy for 1,260 days. They will be dressed in sackcloth."  4These two witnesses are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth.  5If a person tries to hurt the witnesses, fire comes from the mouths of the witnesses and kills their enemy. Any person that tries to hurt them will die like this. 6These witnesses have the power to stop the sky from raining during the time they are prophesying. These witnesses have power to make the water become blood. They have power to send every kind of trouble to the earth. They can do this as many times as they want. (ERV)

American Standard Version of the BibleAnd there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and one said, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. 2And the court which is without the temple leave without, and measure it not; for it hath been given unto the nations: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. 3And I will give unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. 4These are the two olive trees and the two candlesticks, standing before the Lord of the earth. 5And if any man desireth to hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth and devoureth their enemies; and if any man shall desire to hurt them, in this manner must he be killed. 6These have the power to shut the heaven, that it rain not during the days of their prophecy: and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood, and to smite the earth with every plague, as often as they shall desire. (ASV)

King James Version of the BibleAnd there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
2But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. 3And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. 4These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. 5And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. 6These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
