In the Hebrew language, the number "six"
was oftentimes used to designate things that were
of this world (creation), and falling short of
perfection (6 is one number less than the perfect
number "seven").
Perhaps the use of the number six three times (666)
is just to emphasize the worldly or sinful nature of
Satan and his beasts. The exact meaning of the
number is not specified in the text.

saying, "Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed
the bond-servants of our God on their foreheads." Revelation 7:2-3 (NAS) |
In Revelation
13, no one is able to buy or sell, except
the one who has the mark of the beast:
 And
he causes all, the small and the great, and
the rich and the poor, and the free men and
the slaves, to be given a mark on their
right hand, or on their forehead, 17and
he provides that no one should be able to
buy or to sell, except the one who has the
mark, either the name of the beast or the
number of his name. Revelation 13:16-17

not have the seal of God on their
foreheads:
"And they were told that they should not hurt the grass
of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not

Deceiving Miracles:
This second beast was given the
power to do miracles...and used those miracles to
deceive people. The New Testament warns of
looking after signs and wonders...and ignoring what
God says:
But
He (Jesus) answered and said to them, "An evil and
adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no
sign shall be given to it but the sign of Jonah the
prophet; 40for just as Jonah was three
days and three nights in the belly of the sea
monster, so shall the Son of Man be three days and
three nights in the heart of the earth. Matthew
12:39-40 (NAS)
And then that
lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay
with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by
the appearance of His coming; 9that is,
the one whose coming is in accord with the activity
of Satan, with all power and signs and false
wonders, 10and with all the deception of
wickedness for those who perish, because they did
not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.
11And for this reason God will send upon
them a deluding influence so that they might believe
what is false, 12in order that they all
may be judged who did not believe the truth, but
