Correct.
'I
know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot endure evil
men, and you put to the test those who
call themselves apostles, and they are not, and
you found them to be false...
Revelation 2:1-2 (NAS)
The apostle Paul had warned the churches earlier to be aware of people who
claim falsely to be apostles:
"For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached,
or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different
gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully...13For such
men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as
apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself
as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants
also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness; whose end shall be
according to their deeds." 2 Corinthians 11:4, 13-15 (NAS)
The church in Ephesus was commended for testing these people, to see in fact
if they were true.
How do you feel about testing those today who claim to be apostles, teachers or
preachers of the truth? How do you feel about checking out what they say
to see if it is in accordance with the scriptures? Consider the example of
the Christians in the city of Berea:
"And the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to
Berea; and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews.
Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received
the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see
whether these things were so." Acts 17:10-11 (NAS)
