Chapter
21: The Bride of the Lamb:
At this point, let's go back quickly and summarize
the last couple of chapters:
Announcement of the marriage of the Lamb and His
bride:
- In Revelation 19:7, those around the throne
of God were rejoicing because "the marriage
of the Lamb had come and His bride has made
herself ready."
- In Revelation 19:8, the bride of Christ (the
saints or followers of Christ, collectively
called the church) was given fine linen to
clothe herself. It says the fine linen is
the "righteous acts" of the saints.
- Revelation 19:9 speaks of how blessed are
those who are invited to the marriage supper of
the Lamb.
The enemies of God and the Lamb are defeated:
- In Revelation 19:11-16, John sees Jesus
riding on a white horse with an army of the
angels of God following out of heaven.
- In Revelation 19:17-21, the birds of the air
are invited to the great supper of God...and
they feed on those who were against God and the
Lamb.
- In Revelation 20:1-10, Satan is defeated and
is thrown into the lake of fire where he, the
beast and the false prophet will be tormented
forever. The followers of God and Christ
are told that they would not be hurt by the lake
of fire (the second death).
- In Revelation 20:11-15, the earth and
heavens depart, the dead are raised, and the
judgment begins. Death, Hades and those
whose names are not found in the book of life
are thrown into the lake of fire.
The marriage of the Lamb and His bride:
- John sees a new heaven and a new earth
(earth and heaven as we know it have now gone
away).
We now prepare to see the bride of Christ:
And
I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out
of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned
for her husband. Revelation 21:2 (NAS)
Question:
In Revelation 21:2, John saw in the vision a new city...a
holy city...coming down out of the heaven of God, made ready as what?
