Correct.
And
the wall of
the city had twelve foundation stones, and on
them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of
the Lamb. Revelation 21:9-14 (NAS)
Other references to the church being
built on the foundation of the apostles (in addition to the cornerstone
which is Jesus Christ):
"So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow
citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, having been
built
upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself
being the cornerstone in whom the whole building, being fitted together is
growing into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are being built
together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit." Ephesians 2:19-22
(NAS)
"Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day
about three thousand souls were added to them. And
they continued
steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of
bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders
and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were
together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods,
and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with
one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate
their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having
favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who
were being saved." Acts 2:41-47 (NKJ)
"And
the congregation of those who believed were of one heart and
soul; and not one of them claimed that anything belonging to him was his
own; but all things were common property to them. And with great power
the apostles were giving witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus,
and abundant grace was upon them all." (NAS)
"And God has appointed in the church,
first apostles, second
prophets, third teachers..." 1 Corinthians 12:28 (NAS)
"And He gave some
as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists,
and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the
work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ*; until we all
attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a
mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fulness of
Christ." Ephesians 4:11-13 (NAS)
*Note: the body of Christ is His church. "Colossians
1:18 -- "He is also head of the body, the church..." Colossians 1:24 -- "Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your
sake, and in my flesh I do my share on behalf of His body (which is the
church) in filling up that which is lacking in Christ's afflictions."
Ephesians 5:23 -- "For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also
is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body."
