Correct.
`He
who overcomes will thus be clothed in white
garments; and
I will not
erase his name from the book of life, and I
will confess his name before My Father and before
His angels. Revelation 3:5 (NAS)
The Book of Life:
Jesus promises in Revelation 3:4 that those
Christians in the city of Sardis who have not soiled
their garments will walk with Him in white.
In Revelation 3:5, Jesus continues His promise
saying that he who overcomes will be clothed in
white garments and Jesus will not erase his name
from the book of life.
The book of life is first alluded to in
Exodus 32 when the Israelites had sinned against
God. Moses pleads for forgiveness for the sins
of the people to the point that he asks God to blot
his name out of the book if they are not forgiven.
God replies in Exodus 32:33 saying:
And
the LORD said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against
Me, I will blot him out of My book. Exodus 32:33
(NAS)
In Psalm 69, the psalmist speaks of men of
iniquity (sin) who are persecuting others:
May
they be blotted out of the book of life, and may
they not be recorded with the righteous. Psalm 69:28
(NAS)
Given
the scriptures above, it should be safe to assume
that the book of life is the record that God keeps
of those that will inherit eternal life. When
our names are entered in the book of life, it is
not a
permanent entry. As noted in the scriptures
above, our names can be blotted out as a result of
our sin. However, Jesus promises to those who
overcome, remaining faithful until death, that they
will receive the crown of life (Revelation 2:10)
and that their name will
not
be erased from the book of life:
He
who overcomes shall thus be clothed in white
garments; and
I will not
erase his name from the book of life, and I
will confess his name before My Father, and before
His angels." Revelation 3:5 (NAS)
"Indeed, true comrade, I ask you also to help these
women who have shared my struggle in the cause of
the gospel, together with Clement also, and the rest
of my fellow workers,
whose names
are in the book of life." Philippians 4:3
(NAS)
Do you want your name to be recorded with the righteous in this Book of Life?
Are you a fellow worker who has shared in the cause of the gospel? See Lesson 1 for more information about salvation
