Section 1 of Preface - Examples of Prophecy from the Old Testament

Introduction:

To help us to understand how past revelations from God were fulfilled, let us first look at two examples of God's revelation to the prophet Daniel as recorded in the book of Daniel.

Example from Daniel Chapter 2:

The first example is God's revealing to Daniel the dream of King Nebuchadnezzar (in Daniel chapter 2:26-47). Take time to read chapter 2 of Daniel from your Bible or simply read from the text provided below; then answer the series of questions that follow.

As background, King Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon. From ~605 B.C. to ~581 B.C. he had defeated Judah, burned Jerusalem, and took the people of Judah as slaves to Babylon. Just prior to being appointed king, in ~605 B.C. Nebuchadnezzar defeated Jehoiakim (the king of Judah) and took temple treasures as well as the sons of prominent families, including Daniel, to Babylon.

Daniel chapter 2 records what happens in the second year of Nebuchadnezzar's reign (~603 B.C.). This chapter opens telling about a troubling dream that the king had. The king wanted to find someone who could tell him the dream...and the interpretation. No one could be found to do this, until they found Daniel.

Beginning in Daniel Chapter 2 verse 26, Daniel responds to the king's request to interpret the dream:

The king said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, "Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen and its interpretation?" 27Daniel answered before the king and said, "As for the mystery about which the king has inquired, neither wise men, conjurers, magicians nor diviners are able to declare it to the king. 28"However, there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will take place in the latter days. This was your dream and the visions in your mind while on your bed. Daniel 2:26-28 - New American Standard Version (NAS)

Question:

According to Daniel 2:26-28 when the king asked Daniel if he was able to make known the dream, Daniel told him that only __________ could make it known.

God in Heaven Daniel Moses

Other Translations - Daniel 2:26-28:

The king asked Daniel (Belteshazzar) a question. He said to Daniel, "Are you able to tell me about my dream, and what it means?" 27 Daniel answered, "King Nebuchadnezzar, no wise man, no man that does magic tricks, and no Chaldean could tell the king the secret things he has asked about. 28 But there is a God in heaven who tells secret things. God gave King Nebuchadnezzar dreams to show him what will happen at a later time. This was your dream, and these are the things you saw while lying on your bed: Easy-To-Read Version (ERV)

The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof? 27 Daniel answered before the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded can neither wise men, enchanters, magicians, nor soothsayers, show unto the king; 28 but there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and he hath made known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these: American Standard Version (ASV)

The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof? 27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king; 28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these; King James Version (KJV)
