The Kingdom: Individual Members of Jesus'
Church:
Their Devotion to Fellowship, Breaking of Bread
and Prayer (Acts 2:42)
Let's look closer at the focus of our
worship:
Matthew
4:10 -- Then Jesus said to him, "Begone, Satan! For
it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God,
and serve Him only.'" (NAS)
John 4:21-24 -- Jesus said to
her, "Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when
neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall
you worship the Father. "You worship that which you
do not know; we worship that which we know, for
salvation is from the Jews. "But an hour is coming,
and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship
the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the
Father seeks to be His worshipers. "God is spirit,
and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and
truth." (NAS)
Romans 12:1 -- I urge you
therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to
present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice,
acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service
of worship. (NAS)
Hebrews 1:5-6 -- For to which
of the angels did He ever say, "Thou art My Son,
today I have begotten Thee"? And again, "I will be a
Father to Him And He shall be a Son to Me"? And when
He again brings the first-born into the world, He
says, "And let all the angels of God worship Him."
(NAS)
Revelation 4:10-11 -- "...the
twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who
sits on the throne, and will worship Him who lives
forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before
the throne, saying, "Worthy art Thou, our Lord and
our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for
Thou didst create all things, and because of Thy
will they existed, and were created." (NAS)
Revelation 14:7 -- "...and he
said with a loud voice, "Fear God, and give Him
glory, because the hour of His judgment has come;
and worship Him who made the heaven and the earth
and sea and springs of waters." (NAS)
Revelation 15:4 -- "Who will
not fear, O Lord, and glorify Thy name? For Thou
alone art holy; for all the nations will come and
worship before Thee, for Thy righteous acts have
been revealed." (NAS)
Revelation 19:10* -- And I fell
at his feet to worship him. And he said to me, "Do
not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your
brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship
God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of
prophecy." (NAS)
* Note: this scripture shows
we are not to worship angels or servants of God.
Revelation 22:8-9* -- And I,
John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And
when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship at the
feet of the angel who showed me these things. And he
said to me, "Do not do that; I am a fellow servant
of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of
those who heed the words of this book; worship God."
(NAS)
* Note: this scripture shows
we are not to worship angels or servants of God.
Matthew 2:11 -- And they came
into the house and saw the Child with Mary His
mother; and they fell down and worshiped Him; and
opening their treasures they presented to Him gifts
of gold and frankincense and myrrh. (NAS)
Matthew 14:33 -- And those who
were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, "You are
certainly God's Son!" (NAS)
Matthew 28:9 -- And behold,
Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up
and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him. (NAS)
Matthew 28:16-20 -- But the
eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the
mountain which Jesus had designated. And when they
saw Him, they worshiped {Him} but some were
doubtful. And Jesus came up and spoke to them,
saying, "All authority has been given to Me in
heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make
disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I commanded you;
and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the
age." (NAS)
John 9:37-38 -- Jesus said to
him, "You have both seen Him, and He is the one who
is talking with you." And he said, "Lord, I
believe." And he worshiped Him. (NAS)
Acts 10:25-26* -- And when it
came about that Peter entered, Cornelius met him,
and fell at his feet and worshiped {him.} But Peter
raised him up, saying, "Stand up; I too am {just} a
man." (NAS)
*Note: This scripture shows we
are not to worship men, even if they are apostles
Romans 1:20-25* -- For since
the creation of the world His invisible attributes,
His eternal power and divine nature, have been
clearly seen, being understood through what has been
made, so that they are without excuse. For even
though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God,
or give thanks; but they became futile in their
speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing to be wise, they became fools, and
exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an
image in the form of corruptible man and of birds
and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their
hearts to impurity, that their bodies might be
dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth
of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the
creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed
forever. Amen. (NAS)
* Note: This scripture shows
that we are not to exchange the glory of the
incorruptible God for any image (either in the form
of man, birds, animals or creatures). God the Father
is invisible according to Romans 1:20, Colossians
1:15 and 1 Timothy 1:17. God the Father is spirit
according to John 4:24. God the Father is also
described as a consuming fire according to
Deuteronomy 4:24 and Hebrews 12:29. And we are not
to worship created images.
Revelation 7:11 -- "And all the
angels were standing around the throne and around
the elders and the four living creatures; and they
fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped
God," (NAS)
Revelation 11:16 -- And the
twenty-four elders, who sit on their thrones before
God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, (NAS)
Revelation 19:4-5 -- And the
twenty-four elders and the four living creatures
fell down and worshiped God who sits on the throne
saying, "Amen. Hallelujah!" And a voice came from
the throne, saying, "Give praise to our God, all you
His bond-servants, you who fear Him, the small and
the great." (NAS)
