Before Christ came, God spoke through prophets. But
now in these last days (beginning with the ministry
of Christ) God has spoken to us through His Son:
Hebrews
1:1-2 -- "God, after He spoke long ago to the
fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many
ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His
Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through
whom also He made the world." (NAS)
The words that God, Jesus and His disciples
spoke in the Bible are unalterable:
Hebrews
2:2-3 -- "For if the word spoken through angels
proved unalterable, and every transgression and
disobedience received a just recompense, how shall
we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After
it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was
confirmed to us by those who heard," (NAS)
Galatians 1:8 -- "But even
though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to
you a gospel contrary to that which we have preached
to you, let him be accursed." (NAS)
Prophecy would fail and false teachers would
arise:
I
Corinthians 13:8 -- "Love never fails; but if there
are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if
there are tongues, they will cease; if there is
knowledge, it will be done away." (NAS)
1 John 4:1 -- "Beloved, do not
believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see
whether they are from God; because many false
prophets have gone out into the world." (NAS)
