17:1-11:
When
Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared
to him and said, "I am God Almighty; walk before me
and be blameless. I will confirm my covenant between
me and you and will greatly increase your numbers."
Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, "As for
me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the
father of many nations. No longer will you be called
Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made
you a father of many nations. I will make you very
fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will
come from you. I will establish my covenant as an
everlasting covenant between me and you and your
descendants after you for the generations to come,
to be your God and the God of your descendants after
you. The whole land of Canaan, where you are now an
alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to
you and your descendants after you; and I will be
their God." Then God said to Abraham, "As for you,
you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants
after you for the generations to come. This is my
covenant with you and your descendants after you,
the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you
shall be circumcised. You are to undergo
circumcision, and it will be the sign of the
covenant between me and you. (NIV)
When
Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared
to Abram and said to him, "I am Almighty God; walk
before Me and be blameless. "And I will make My
covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you
exceedingly." Then Abram fell on his face, and God
talked with him, saying: "As for Me, behold, My
covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of
many nations. "No longer shall your name be called
Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have
made you a father of many nations. "I will make you
exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of
you, and kings shall come from you. "And I will
establish My covenant between Me and you and your
descendants after you in their generations, for an
everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your
descendants after you. "Also I give to you and your
descendants after you the land in which you are a
stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting
possession; and I will be their God." And God said
to Abraham: "As for you, you shall keep My covenant,
you and your descendants after you throughout their
generations. "This is My covenant which you shall
keep, between Me and you and your descendants after
you: Every male child among you shall be
circumcised; "and you shall be circumcised in the
flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of
the covenant between Me and you. (NKJ)
And
when Abram was ninety years old and nine, Jehovah
appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am God
Almighty. Walk before me, and be thou perfect. And I
will make my covenant between me and thee, and will
multiply thee exceedingly. And Abram fell on his
face. And God talked with him, saying; As for me,
behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be
the father of a multitude of nations. Neither shall
thy name any more be called Abram, but they name
shall be Abraham. For the father of a multitude of
nations have I made thee. And I will make thee
exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee,
and kings shall come out of thee. And I will
establish my covenant between me and thee and thy
seed after thee, throughout their generations for an
everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to
thy seed after thee. And I will give unto thee, and
to thy seed after thee, the land of thy sojournings,
all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting
possession. And I will be their God. And God said
unto Abraham, And as for thee, thou shalt keep my
covenant, thou, and thy seed after thee throughout
their generations. This is my covenant, which ye
shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after
thee. Every male among you shall be circumcised. And
ye shall be circumcised in the flesh of your
foreskin. And it shall be a token of a covenant
betwixt me and you. (ASV)
