Jesus instructs His Disciples on Prayer:
Let's continue to look at the instructions that
Jesus gave His disciples during the last supper:
"If
you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
15 "If you love Me, you will keep My
commandments. 16 "And I will ask the
Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He
may be with you forever; 17 that is the
Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive,
because it does not behold Him or know Him, but you
know Him because He abides with you, and will be in
you. 18 "I will not leave you as orphans;
I will come to you. John 14:14-18 (NAS)
Jesus knew that He would soon be crucified...and
that He would be resurrected and would also ascend
to heaven. Jesus would not be with His
disciples continuously, but He would come back in
the second coming. For that reason Jesus
speaks of a helper, the Spirit of truth, that His
Father would give to them. Later we learn how
the Spirit would help the disciples in their prayer
life:
And
in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness;
for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the
Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too
deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows
what the mind of the Spirit is,
because He
intercedes for the saints according to the will of
God. Romans 8:26-27 (NAS)
Question:
According to the scriptures above, who (if
anyone) helps the disciples of Jesus in their
prayers...even when they do not know how to pray?
- The Spirit of God...the Spirit of truth.
- The saints that are in heaven.
- Jesus' disciples do not need help.
