12:1-8:
Therefore,
since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of
witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders
and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run
with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let
us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter
of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured
the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the
right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who
endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you
will not grow weary and lose heart. 4 In your
struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to
the point of shedding your blood. 5 And you have
forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses
you as sons: "My son, do not make light of the
Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he
rebukes you, 6 because the Lord disciplines those he
loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a
son." 7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is
treating you as sons. For what son is not
disciplined by his father? 8 If you are not
disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline),
then you are illegitimate children and not true
sons. (NIV)
Therefore
we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud
of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the
sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with
endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking
unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,
who for the joy that was set before Him endured the
cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the
right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider Him
who endured such hostility from sinners against
Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in
your souls. 4 You have not yet resisted to
bloodshed, striving against sin. 5 And you have
forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to
sons: "My son, do not despise the chastening of the
Lord, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by
Him; 6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and
scourges every son whom He receives." 7 If you
endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons;
for what son is there whom a father does not
chasten? 8 But if you are without chastening, of
which all have become partakers, then you are
illegitimate and not sons. (NKJ)
Therefore let us also, seeing we are compassed about
with so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every
weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us,
and let us run with patience the race that is set
before us, 2 looking unto Jesus the author and
perfecter of (our) faith, who for the joy that was
set before him endured the cross, despising shame,
and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of
God. 3 For consider him that hath endured such
gainsaying of sinners against himself, that ye wax
not weary, fainting in your souls. 4 Ye have not yet
resisted unto blood, striving against sin: 5 and ye
have forgotten the exhortation which reasoneth with
you as with sons, My son, regard not lightly the
chastening of the Lord, Nor faint when thou art
reproved of him; 6 For whom the Lord loveth he
chasteneth, And scourgeth every son whom he
receiveth. 7 It is for chastening that ye endure;
God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is
there whom (his) father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye
are without chastening, whereof all have been made
partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. (ASV)
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so
great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every
weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us,
and let us run with patience the race that is set
before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and
finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set
before him endured the cross, despising the shame,
and is set down at the right hand of the throne of
God. 3 For consider him that endured such
contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be
wearied and faint in your minds. 4 Ye have not yet
resisted unto blood, striving against sin. 5 And ye
have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto
you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the
chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art
rebuked of him: 6 For whom the Lord loveth he
chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he
receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth
with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the
father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without
chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye
bastards, and not sons. (KJV) |
