Correct.
"Let
us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride
has made herself ready." 8And it was
given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright
and clean;
for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the
saints. Revelation 19:7-8 (NAS)
Those that were followers, or saints of Jesus were clothed in their righteous
acts.
References in scripture to Jesus being the
bridegroom (the husband to be):
John the baptist speaking about Jesus:
Early on in the beginning part of Jesus' ministry, John the baptist
described Jesus as the bridegroom and John described himself as the friend
of the bridegroom. John the baptist says in John 3:28-29:
"You yourselves bear me
witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but, 'I have been sent before
Him.' He who has the bride is the bridegroom (Jesus); but the friend
of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the
bridegroom's voice. And so this joy of mine has been made full." John
3:28-29 (NAS)
Jesus referring to Himself:
"And Jesus said to them, "The attendants of the bridegroom cannot
mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days
will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will
fast." Matthew 9:15 (NAS)
References in scripture to Jesus being the
bridegroom or husband, and Jesus' church (His followers) as the bride or wife:
Paul referring to the church meeting in
the city of Corinth.
"For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you
to one husband, that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin. 2
Corinthians 11:2 (NAS)
Ephesians 5. Note that "this is referring
to Christ and the church."
"But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to
be to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just
as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her; that He might
sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot
or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she should be holy and blameless.
So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who
loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but
nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because
we are members of His body. For this cause a man shall leave his
father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become
one flesh. This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference
to Christ and the church. Nevertheless let each individual among
you also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see to it
that she respect her husband." Ephesians 5:24-33 (NAS)
How did Christ (the husband) demonstrate His
love for her (the church)?
"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and
gave Himself up for her...; Ephesians 5:25 (NAS)
How is the church (Jesus' wife) sanctified?
"...that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the
washing of water with the word..." Ephesians 5:26 (NAS)
Why was the wife of Christ (the church)
sanctified by the washing of water with the word?
"...that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory,
having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she should be holy and
blameless." Ephesians 5:27 (NAS)
Will Jesus nourish and cherish the church (His
wife)?
"So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies.
He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own
flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church,
because we are members of His body. For this cause a man shall leave
his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall
become one flesh. Ephesians 5:28-31 (NAS)
Why will Jesus nourish and cherish those that
are members of His wife (the church)?
"...for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes
it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His
body." Ephesians 5:29-30 (NAS)
