Section 3A - Jesus' Love for His Church:

Jesus wanted to make sure that His cherished bride (the church) was taken care of after He ascended to heaven. Jesus had the apostles appoint certain faithful men...called elders...to oversee the church (see Titus 1:5-9 & 1 Timothy 3:1-7).  In Acts 20:17-38, Paul speaks to the elders of the congregation in the city of Ephesus.  He tells them in Acts 20:28:

"Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood." Acts 20:28 (NAS)

Question:

According to Acts 20:28, the elders of the church were reminded of why the church was so important to Jesus...because Jesus had done what?

  1. Purchased the church with His blood.
  2. Purchased the church with money.
  3. Inherited the church.

Purchased w Blood Purchased w Money Inherited It

Other Translations - Acts 20:28:

Be careful for yourselves and for all the people that God has given you. The Holy Spirit gave you the work of caring for this flock (God's people). You must be like shepherds to the church (people) of God. This is the church that God bought with his own blood. (ERV)

"Take heed unto yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit hath made you bishops, to feed the church of the Lord which he purchased with his own blood." (ASV)

"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." (KJV)
