"Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood." Acts 20:28 (NAS)

Without Jesus' death on the cross, there would be no church...and no salvation:

"Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him." Romans 5:9 (NAS)

"In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace..." Ephesians 1:7 (NAS)

"...and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say whether things on earth or things in heaven." Colossians 1:20 (NAS)

Sometimes people claim that they can just follow God or Jesus, but have nothing to do with Jesus' church. But Jesus speaks of His church as a cherished bride...one that He purchased with His own blood. How is it possible to have a relationship with Jesus without being part of His body, the bride?
