1:18-23:
The
wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against
all the godlessness and wickedness of men who
suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what
may be known about God is plain to them, because God
has made it plain to them. For since the creation of
the world God's invisible qualities-- his eternal
power and divine nature-- have been clearly seen,
being understood from what has been made, so that
men are without excuse. For although they knew God,
they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to
him, but their thinking became futile and their
foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed
to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the
glory of the immortal God for images made to look
like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
(NIV)
For
the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all
ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress
the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be
known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown
it to them. For since the creation of the world His
invisible attributes are clearly seen, being
understood by the things that are made, even His
eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without
excuse, because, although they knew God, they did
not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but
became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish
hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they
became fools, and changed the glory of the
incorruptible God into an image made like
corruptible man-- and birds and four-footed animals
and creeping things. (NKJ)
For
the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all
ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder
the truth in unrighteousness; because that which is
known of God is manifest in them; for God manifested
it unto them. For the invisible things of him since
the creation of the world are clearly seen, being
perceived through the things that are made, (even)
his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be
without excuse: because that, knowing God, they
glorified him not as God, neither gave thanks; but
became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless
heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be
wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of
the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image
of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed
beasts, and creeping things. (ASV)
For
the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all
ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the
truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be
known of God is manifest in them; for God hath
shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him
from the creation of the world are clearly seen,
being understood by the things that are made, even
his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are
without excuse: Because that, when they knew God,
they glorified him not as God, neither were
thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and
their foolish heart was darkened. Professing
themselves to be wise, they became fools, And
changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an
image made like to corruptible man, and to birds,
and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. (KJV) |
