How Jesus, Along with the Spirit,
Helped the Apostles
in New Testament Times:
Apostles Given the Power to Cast
Out Demons:
Matthew 12:28 indicates that the Spirit was
involved in helping the demons to be cast out by
Jesus. The scriptures related to the casting
out of demons by the Apostles include:
Jesus
told them: "And as you go, preach, saying,
'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' "Heal the sick,
raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons;
freely you received, freely give." Matthew 10:7-8
(NAS)
"And He appointed twelve, that
they might be with Him, and that He might send them
out to preach, and to have authority to cast out the
demons." Mark 3:14-15 (NAS)
"And at the hands of the
apostles many signs and wonders were taking place
among the people; and they were all with one accord
in Solomon's portico. But none of the rest dared to
associate with them; however, the people held them
in high esteem. And all the more believers in the
Lord, multitudes of men and women, were constantly
added to their number to such an extent that they
even carried the sick out into the streets, and laid
them on cots and pallets, so that when Peter came
by, at least his shadow might fall on any one of
them. And also the people from the cities in the
vicinity of Jerusalem were coming together, bringing
people who were sick or afflicted with unclean
spirits; and they were all being healed." Acts
5:12-16 (NAS)
"And it happened that as we
were going to the place of prayer, a certain
slave-girl having a spirit of divination met us, who
was bringing her masters much profit by
fortunetelling. Following after Paul and us, she
kept crying out, saying, "These men are
bond-servants of the Most High God, who are
proclaiming to you the way of salvation." And she
continued doing this for many days. But Paul was
greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit,
"I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come
out of her!" And it came out at that very moment."
Acts 16:16-18 (NAS)
"But also some of the Jewish
exorcists, who went from place to place, attempted
to name over those who had the evil spirits the name
of the Lord Jesus, saying, "I adjure you by Jesus
whom Paul preaches." And seven sons of one Sceva, a
Jewish chief priest, were doing this. And the evil
spirit answered and said to them, "I recognize
Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" And
the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leaped on them
and subdued all of them and overpowered them, so
that they fled out of that house naked and wounded."
Acts 19:13-16 (NAS)
