True Christians Receive the
Spirit:
So The Love of God is Poured into Their Hearts
God's Word Will Remind Again and Again of His
Love:
"For
I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor
angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor
things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth,
nor any other created thing, shall be able to
separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ
Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39 (NAS)
God's Definition of Love:
Love
is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love
does not brag and is not arrogant, 5 does
not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is
not provoked, does not take into account a wrong
suffered, 6 does not rejoice in
unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7
bears all things, believes all things, hopes all
things, endures all things. 8 Love never
fails...1 Corinthians 13:4-8a (NAS)
But God demonstrates His own
love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 (NAS)
God wants to pour out His love into your heart
starting at the point you become a Christian:
"...and
hope does not disappoint, because the love of God
has been poured out within our hearts through the
Holy Spirit who was given to us." Romans 5:5 (NAS)
Christians must maintain a proper balance
between power, discipline and love:
"For
God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of
power and love and discipline." 2 Timothy 1:7
(NAS)
Christians must strive to be united in one mind
and purpose:
I,
therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, entreat you to
walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which
you have been called, 2 with all humility
and gentleness, with patience, showing forbearance
to one another in love, 3 being diligent
to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of
peace. 4 There is one body and one
Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of
your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one
baptism, 6one God and Father of all who
is over all and through all and in all. Ephesians
4:1-6 (NAS)
"If therefore there is any
encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation
of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit,
if any affection and compassion, make my joy
complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the
same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but
with humility of mind let each of you regard one
another as more important than himself; do not
merely look out for your own personal interests, but
also for the interests of others." Philippians 2:1-4
(NAS)
Christians who truly love, will reach out to
those who are caught in error or sin; trying to
rescue them in a spirit of love & gentleness:
"What
do you desire? Shall I come to you with a rod or
with love and a spirit of gentleness?" 1 Corinthians
4:21 (NAS)
"Brethren, even if a man is
caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual,
restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each
one looking to yourself, lest you too be tempted."
Galatians 6:1 (NAS)
Faith, works and the miraculous gifts of that
time are nothing without love:
If
I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but
do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a
clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have the gift
of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all
knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove
mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
3 And if I give all my possessions to feed the
poor, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but do
not have love, it profits me nothing. 4
Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous;
love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5
does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own,
is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong
suffered, 6 does not rejoice in
unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7
bears all things, believes all things, hopes all
things, endures all things. 8 Love never
fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will
be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease;
if there is knowledge, it will be done away. 9
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part;
10 but when the perfect comes, the partial
will be done away. 1 Corinthians 13:1-10 (NAS)
