The Holy Spirit Gives Gifts:
Gifts That Abide and Do Not Fade
Away
As we have learned so far in this lesson, when a
person becomes a Christian through obedience to the
gospel, he or she receives the gift of the Holy
Spirit. The Holy Spirit dwells within a
Christian for the purposes we have looked at so far
in this lesson.
In addition to the Holy Spirit Himself being a
gift to us, we find in scripture that the Holy
Spirit also gives gifts to the Christian.
There are a number of gifts that the Spirit gives
(or gave). Despite the number of gifts, there is
still only One Spirit:
"Now
there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit."
1 Corinthians 12:4 (NAS)
Each gift that was given by the Spirit was given
for a purpose:
"But
to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit
for the common good."
1 Corinthians 12:7 (NAS)
Following are the gifts given by the Holy Spirit
that will not fade away:
Gifts or
Fruit Given By the Spirit That Will Not
Fade:
Love never fails...But
now abide faith, hope, love, these three;
but the greatest of these is love.

Love (greatest) |
Love never fails...13
But
now abide faith, hope, love, these three;
but the greatest of these is love. 1
Corinthians 13:8, 13 (NAS)
"...and hope does not
disappoint, because the love of God has been
poured out within our hearts through the
Holy Spirit who was given to us." Romans 5:5
(NAS)
"Now I urge you,
brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by
the love of the Spirit, to strive together
with me in your prayers to God for me..."
Romans 15:30 (NAS)
"For you were called to
freedom, brethren; only do not turn your
freedom into an opportunity for the flesh,
but through love serve one another. For the
whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the
statement "You shall love your neighbor as
yourself." Galatians 5:13 (NAS) |
2.
Faith |
"For in Christ Jesus
neither circumcision nor uncircumcision
means anything, but faith working through
love." Galatians 5:6 (NAS)
And without faith it is
impossible to please Him for he who comes to
God must believe that He is, and that He is
a rewarder of those who seek Him. Hebrews
11:6 (NAS) |
3.
Hope |
"For we through the
Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope
of righteousness." Galatians 5:5 (NAS) |
Galatians 5 tells us
of other fruit of the Spirit:
"But the fruit of the
Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control; against such
things there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23
(NAS)
